Resource Center

One of the departments that makes Heavenly Place so unique is its child-centered Resource Room. The Resource Room is equipped with twenty networked workstations. In addition to a wealth of technology, there is a conference room table that seats twenty-five to thirty children. School age children utilize the resource room for homework and special school projects. Staff members use the resource room to gain access to their on-line college courses during lunch time. The facility is also used for tutoring those children that need additional help with their studies in the afternoon on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6pm-7pm. Certified teachers are available to assist those that need help. Dr. Sharon Wrease, a local teacher, is the tutoring administrator.

The room is designed to help children with fundamental reading skills. The multipurpose listening station facilitates the reading needs of younger children who use it to follow along in their reading book. Children are learning to enjoy reading and other educational activities. Heavenly Place presently is registered with www.firstbook.org. First book is a literacy programs designed for non-profit organizations to help enhance the reading skills of our children. First book offers children their first book to own. The site www.bookadventure.com is a web site that our children use to help with their reading skills. Our children take periodic field trips to the library to check out books from the book adventure booklist. After the pupils have read the book, they are encouraged to go on the web site and take a test concerning what they have read. The resource room is a great need to our program. This on site room is a positive influence on the children and parents that are a part of Heavenly place Learning center.
